Tulsa NEO Certificates of Merit
and Scholarship Program
The Certificate of Merit (COM) is an achievement award presented to female students completing their junior year of high school. The recipients are chosen by the faculty of the math and science departments and administration of their schools on the basis of their achievements in math and science, their character, and their desire for a future career in engineering, math or science. The award consists of a certificate that can be recorded on college and scholarship applications as well as a copy of the book Is There an Engineer Inside You? Nomination form is now available online.
In addition to the COM, the Tulsa NEO SWE will select 1-2 students per year to award a $500 scholarship through an application. The goal of this scholarship is to provide financial support to qualified candidates who want to major engineering. To be qualified for the scholarship, candidates must meet ALL of the below requirements:

Certificate of Merit and Scholarship 2019-2020 Program Timeline:
March 1, 2020: Scholarship Applications due
March 9, 2020: Nominations from faculty for COM recipient open
April 27, 2020: Deadline to submit COM nomination
May 11, 2020: Announce COM recipients with package by mail and email.
Spring, 2020: Announce scholarship recipient by mail and email
July 1, 2020: Check is sent to scholarship recipient

To be qualified for the scholarship, candidates must meet ALL of the below requirements:
- Currently in their Junior or Senior year of High School
- Highly involved in STEM or extra curriculum activities
- Plan on going to an ABET Accredited Engineering School
- Join SWE Collegiate section when starting college - the scholarship will include an additional $20 to cover the membership fee for the first year
- Write an Essay with a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 500 words answering both of the questions below:
- Explain why you want to study engineering
- Explain why you are the best candidate for this scholarship
